M.D. of Foothills No. 31
The PMRA shall work with the community, governments, and the private sector to develop a strategic vision for the Priddis-Millarville region. The emphasis will be on the protection of the historical, cultural, agricultural and environmental attributes of this region, with the goal of ensuring balanced residential, commercial and resource development.
LONG-TERM PLANNING STRATEGY - To encourage the MD of Foothills to develop a long-term land use planning process for the Priddis-Millarville “Area” adopting ‘scenario planning’ looking out at least 50 years into the future.
CULTURE - To work with the community and governments to preserve the regional identity, historical attributes and unique rural culture of the Area.
GROUNDWATER - Work toward a science-based understanding and stewardship of groundwater resources (aquifers) in this Area.
NATURAL WETLANDS/SURFACE WATER - To encourage governments, in cooperation with appropriate experts, to map, identify and protect surface water bodies, (watersheds, wetlands, and riparian areas), seasonal and permanent, within and affecting the Area.
AGRICULTURE - To encourage and engage the MD of Foothills to commit to the conservation of increasingly threatened agricultural lands within the Area through embracing alternatives to residential-commercial development.
FORESTED LAND CONSERVATION - To encourage land owners and the MD of Foothills to promote the management and conservation of natural forested lands in the Area using best management logging practices including selective logging instead of clear-cutting unless for agricultural reasons.
WILDLIFE - To promote conservation measures that protect wildlife habitat and movement corridors throughout the Area.
NATURAL VISTAS - To encourage the awareness of the intrinsic value in maintaining the quality of existing natural vistas in the Area.
DEVELOPMENT - To promote the adoption of a fully integrated environmentally sensitive vision for future development so as to minimize impact on the Area.
EDUCATION/COMMUNITY VOICE - To facilitate the on-going education of the community on issues of concern. To organize educational workshops and seminars as well as act as a forum for information exchange and community action.
